Illinois River Watershed Partnership’s Rain Garden Video Contest
We want your 25 second (minimum) to 3 minute (maximum) educational videos about rain gardens.
The IRWP’s Rain Garden Video Contest will serve to encourage others to care about our watershed and educate on ways students and their parents can improve our watershed.
There will be three winners in each age/grade category. Classrooms, organizations and home school students are encouraged to enter.
Contest Information
The IRWP wants to get the word out about Rain Gardens and how they can help improve our watershed. The video will serve to educate, inspire and inform.
Three winners will be chosen from each category/age bracket. The First through Third Place winning videos from each category will receive a cash prize, will be acknowledged on our web site and winning videos will be accessed through our web site at www.IRWP.org.
Grade/Age Categories:
- 7th Grade – 9th Grade
- 10th Grade – 12th Grade
- College Students
Entries in these grade levels can include youth organizations such as Boy Scouts, 4-H, Girl Scouts, etc.
Prizes:
- 1st Place: $500
- 2nd Place: $250
- 3rd Place: $100
Entries must be received by April 5th. Winners will be announced April 21st, on the IRWP Watershed Wednesday, 6:00 broadcast, 40/29 TV, weather segment with Meteorologist Drew Michaels and also on our web site at www.IRWP.org.
Showcase your sense of humor, knowledge and creativity. We request videos discuss the following aspects, any and/or all, and any other aspects pertinent to our Watershed:

- How does a Rain Garden benefit the Watershed?
- How does a Rain Garden benefit Water Quality?
- Where is the Illinois River Watershed?
- How do you build a Rain Garden?
- Where is the proper place for a Rain Garden?

REQUIREMENTS
Videos will be judged by an expert panel on the basis of:
- Creativity and originality
- Quality
- Technical Accuracy
- Content of Message
- Your video must be submitted as a QuickTime/MOV, WMV, MPEG, AVI, and must be put on a DVD and mailed with the following entry form.
- You must have a video or photograph release form signed by each person appearing in the video, and his/her guardian if s/he is a minor. If your video is chosen, the IRWP will need to have copies of these releases. The IRWP will provide each winner a sample release form.
- Videos can be funny or serious, as long as they focus on the contest theme.
- Keep it clean. No violence, profanity, sex, or direct attacks on individuals or organizations.
- Your video must not infringe on any third party rights.
- By submitting a video to this contest, you grant the IRWP a royalty-free license to copy, distribute, modify, display and perform publicly and otherwise use, and authorize others to use your video for any educational, promotional purpose and in any media.
RULES
- You must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident to enter and win. EPA employees, contractors, or grantees and their immediate family members may enter, but are not eligible to win.
- Entrants must complete the contest entry form and provide valid contact information.
- The contest entry form must be mailed along with your DVD.
- Entries will be judged by an expert panel on the basis of creativity and originality, quality, technical accuracy, and content of the message. IRWP reserves the right to not select a winner if none of the entries received are judged to be high quality based on the above criteria.
- The video must be your own original creation. No copyrighted music, video, or images may be used in the video.
- Your video must not infringe on any third party rights.
- By submitting a video to this contest, you grant to IRWP a royalty-free license to copy, distribute, modify, display and perform publicly and otherwise use, and authorize others to use, your video for any educational purpose throughout the world and in any media.
- IRWP reserves the right to make your video available to the general public from its Web site and to distribute it to watershed groups and any other organizations interested in showing it for educational purposes, including, but not limited to, on Internet sites, at conferences and events, on television, and other media outlets.
- IRWP will disqualify any entries it deems to contain offensive material.
- You must have a contest entry form filled out and signed by each person appearing in the video, and his/her guardian if s/he is a minor. If your video is chosen, EPA will need to have copies of these releases. This is the release form that will be used for the winning entries.
- Entrants must agree to these terms and conditions, or the agreement of a legal guardian must be obtained if the entrant is a minor.
