Land Management at the McConnells

Part of IRWP’s core mission is to help stakeholders find meaningful solutions to their land management challenges. A family we recently worked with had just purchased an overgrazed horse farm along the Illinois River near Savoy. The new landowners wanted to do what they could to improve their soil, grow more grass, and provide clean water to their livestock.

With funding through IRWP and NRCS, the new landowners were able to fix an eroding pond spillway, install three new freeze-proof watering facilities, fertilize and overseed their worn out pastures, and build new fence to keep cattle out of the river. They now have the infrastructure in place to profitably manage their farm operation.

Healthy, productive pastures means more fertility stays on your property, and feeds your livestock! A win for everybody!
