Beauty in the Buffers

At IRWP, we often highlight how vital riparian buffers are for maintaining water quality, reducing erosion, and providing wildlife habitat. However, with all the important ecological services they provide, it’s easy to neglect mentioning the good they do for the human soul. Riparian buffers offer year-round sensory experiences of color, shadow, texture, structure, and smell to anyone willing to pay attention. They add much-needed beauty to our natural landscapes.

Below are some gorgeous photos taken over the course of the growing season at a recent IRWP-funded riparian buffer project. IRWP provided 75% cost share to the landowners who planted this mixed forest and herbaceous riparian buffer.

If you’re interested in bringing beauty and diversity to a stream or creek in your neighborhood, get in touch with our Restoration Specialist, Travis Chaney, to find out if you are eligible for funding through our Riparian Restoration Program. travis@irwp.org
