Land Use at Mr. Terry’s

Mr. Terry recently worked with our Septic Tank Remediation Program to replace his failing septic system. He has lived on this property in Washington County for 60 years and raised his children here. Mr. Terry has also had many harvests from his sun-drenched back yard where he grows his vegetable garden. When Scott Porter dug the test pit for the percolation or "perc test," he and the Designated Representative Reba Bailey said he had great soil for an onsite system. His re-design and install went smoothly due to the well-draining soils where his lateral lines are placed, an area that was previously his second garden plot.

"He is a fantastic gardener," said Rhonda, his daughter who assisted with the application and came up from Alabama for the installation.

Mr. Terry, Morgan Keeling (IRWP, Program Manager), and Scott Porter (Installer, Porter Backhoe)

While he cannot grow vegetables in that area now-- all lateral fields need to be clear of vegetation and cannot be driven on-- we think it is going to a good use. This area will now treat the effluent from the concrete septic tank by slowly allowing the water to seep into the ground where the microorganisms present in the soil remediate the wastewater and return it to the ground.
