Chainsaw Safety Basics
Tuesday, July 14 | 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. | IRWP Sanctuary

A chainsaw is one of the most useful tools you can own — and one of the least forgiving. Whether you're doing restoration projects, maintaining trails, clearing storm debris, or managing your own property, knowing how to operate one safely makes all the difference.

Join the Illinois River Watershed Partnership for a full-day introductory training led by Brian Branum of STIHL Southwest Inc. The morning classroom session covers PPE, hazard identification, chainsaw safety features, and cutting techniques; in the afternoon, we'll head outdoors for hands-on equipment demonstrations. Open to landowners, volunteers, trail stewards, conservation professionals, municipal staff — anyone who wants to work smarter and safer with a saw.

Wear closed-toe boots and long pants, dress for the weather, and bring a water bottle and lunch. Part of IRWP's Conservation Training Program.
